Whether you're at work, home or school, take a bill of any denomination, then use a piece of scotch tape to attach it to a length of fishing line. Drop the bill on the floor and hide where you can't be seen. When someone comes along to pick it up, keep pulling it away until your prey realizes they're being pranked.

Sneaky Lunch Snacks

If you're packing lunches for kids, switch out regular items for unexpected ones. For instance, if you're sending a bag of chips, open it first, remove the chips and replace them with a completely different snack before carefully sealing the bag up with clear tape. Making a sandwich? Stash a few gummy worms inside. Get creative! And, of course, always take food allergies into consideration and ensure your food swaps are age-appropriate.

Fake Sneeze

Kids and adults will be totally disgusted by this clever prank that'll have them convinced you sneezed on them. All you need to do is dip your fingers in a bit of water, then wait for your prey to turn around. Once they do, do a dramatic “ah-choo!” before flicking the water on the back of their head or neck. Give them a minute before revealing that (thankfully) it was only water they felt and not your sneeze.

Deceptive Donut Gag

If your intended target loves donuts, this one's for you. Take a plain donut and douse it in flour instead of powdered sugar. They'll be in for a big surprise when they take that first bite! Another donut play is to remove the custard or jelly from a filled donut and replace it with sour cream using a piping bag. Instead of a sweet treat, they'll get one seriously sour bite.

Leaking Water Bottle Prank

Using a permanent marker, write “Do not pick up” on a full water bottle. Then, take a thumb tack or pin and poke several holes in the bottom of the bottle. Carefully put it down on a table or surface that you don't mind getting wet. Eventually, someone will simply have to pick it up and when they do, the water will spray out. Don't say you didn't warn them.

Confetti Card

Both messy and annoying, the confetti card is an inspired choice for April Fools' Day. All you need is a greeting card, envelope and either confetti or glitter. Open the greeting card, fill it with the confetti or glitter, then carefully slide it into the envelope without spilling. Write the recipient's name on the envelope and when they open it, voila, a “festive” surprise pours out.

Neck Crack

For this one you'll need one or two uncooked pieces of pasta (preferably penne) and an unwitting accomplice. Put the pasta in your mouth. Tell your victim that you've got a stiff neck and that you need some help cracking it. Ask them to grip your head with their hands and give it a bit of a twist. When they do, bite down on the pasta. The loud noise will make them think they cracked your neck and then some. Ouch!

Lottery Winner

With some advance warning, you can purchase fake winning lottery tickets to spoof friends and family. But if you're pulling a last-minute prank, a regular scratch-off ticket will do just fine. Either way, casually break out a ticket, scratch it off, then begin yelling, "I won! I won! I'm a millionaire!" Carry on for as long as your victim believes you before getting them with the old “Gotcha!”

Cereal Swap

This one’s for the cereal-eaters in your crew and is about as easy as it gets. Simply swap out their regular cereal with a different kind. When they pour it out of the box, they’ll be completely confused over what comes out.

Upside Down Water Glass

This prank requires a water glass and a thick card. Fill the glass with water. Place the card on top. Quickly flip the glass and set it down on a flat surface, then pull the card out. The water should remain in the cup. Leave a note challenging family members to clean it up. Pro tip: Don’t try this on your heirloom wood table.

Balloon Closet or Drawer

Frozen Breakfast

Put cereal and milk in a bowl and let it freeze overnight. When your hungry kids attempt to dig in, they’ll get a frozen surprise.

Honk for April Fools'

Let your practical jokers put a sign on your car that reads “My kids are playing an April Fools’ joke on me. Honk and wave at me!” This joke is even funnier if they get to take a ride in the car with you.

Toothpaste Switcheroo

Surprise your kids this April Fools’ Day with a little toothpaste switcheroo. After breakfast, hand over their toothbrush — but instead of the usual white paste, opt for something creamy and sweet. Cream cheese or vanilla frosting will do the trick; if they use a colored kids’ tooth gel, try using cake decorating gel instead.

Bugs in Your Ice

This oldie-but-goodie prank is easy to make at home with this tip. Add almost boiling water to the ice cube trays and toss in a few plastic bugs. The hotter the water, the more clear the ice will be when frozen.

Sweet Trick

Cut a bunch of “E”s out of brown construction paper, then put them in a baking pan covered in aluminum foil. Offer up brownies as an afternoon snack or after-dinner treat. Their excitement will turn to dismay when they discover that instead of a chocolate treat, they got a tray of brown “E”s instead.

Milk Shenanigans

Add a few drops of food coloring to the carton of milk; when your child goes to pour it into her glass or bowl of cereal, they'll get a colorful surprise — bright pink (or blue, or green) milk.

Pillow Balloon Prank

Remove the pillows and fill their pillowcases with several partially inflated balloons. When they put their head down to sleep, they’ll realize you got the last April Fools’ laugh. Naturally, if your children are younger, make sure to take the balloons out before they go to sleep.

‘Cupcakes’ for Dinner

Bake meatloaf into colorful muffin cups to make them appear as though they are cupcakes. Then “frost” them with creamy mashed potatoes. Kids and adults will be in for a big surprise when they take that first bite.

Put a whoopee cushion under your baby’s high-chair cushion, under the booster seat or car seat cover and see if you get a laugh from the baby, his older brother or your partner.

Salty Hot Chocolate or Coffee

Instead of adding sugar to coffee or hot chocolate, add salt. Kids and adults will initially be excited to take that first sip, but will soon be in for a big surprise when instead their usual sweet beverage, they get a salty drink instead.

Alarm Clock Reset

If your child, spouse, roommate or anyone else in the house still uses an alarm clock, reset the time or alarm for a few hours earlier. Wait until they're up and ready to go to school or work to reveal the real time.

Short-Sheet the Bed

This one's an oldie, but a goodie. To short-sheet the bed, you'll need to undo your prey's bed first. The fitted sheet goes on as usual, but when you put the top sheet back on, put the head of the sheet at the foot of the bed. Then tuck the bottom of the top sheet into the top of the bed. From there, carefully fold the other end back to the top so it appears as though it's a normal sheet. Remake the rest of the bed as usual. When your victim crawls into bed, they won't understand why their feet won't slide all the way to the bottom.

Fake Cake Pop

This sweet treat is hiding a savory center. Put a raw brussels sprout on a lollipop stick and cover it with chocolate frosting and sprinkles. Your kids will be shocked when they bite into the cake pop. To avoid too much disappointment, be sure to have some real cake pops on hand to give your kids after the surprise is over.

Celebrity Photo Swap

This prank will test just how observant your family members are. The night before April Fools' Day, replace all your framed family photos with pics of your favorite celebrity. Wait and see how long it takes for your family to realize that your Christmas card photos have been replaced by action shots of Dwayne Johnson.

Short Shoes

Stuff the toes of your kids’ shoes with another sock and or anything else you can cram into the toe area, then watch them struggle to fit their feet into their too-tiny shoes.

Pop Goes the Bubble Wrap

This gag will start off April Fools’ Day with a bang. Put a layer of bubble wrap under areas that your family frequently walks on, such as the bathmat, kitchen rug, or living room carpet. They’ll jump when the ground starts popping underneath their feet!

No-Lather Soap

Carefully dry off a bar of soap, then cover it thoroughly with clear nail polish or Elmer's glue. Wait for it to dry, then put it back in the shower or on the sick. Your unsuspecting target will be confused when they can't get their soap to lather.
