Megan Thee Stallion left the March 31 performance of Broadway’s “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” midway through the show after she fell ill, a spokesperson for the rapper said.
“During Tuesday night’s production, Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated," her spokesperson said in a statement. "We will share additional updates as more information becomes available."
The “WAP” hitmaker announced in February that she would be joining the show as Harold Zidler for a limited run starting March 24 and ending May 17. It marks the first time a person identifying as female played the character. Zidler is the owner of the Moulin Rouge nightclub, and the character was first brought to life by Jim Broadbent in the 2001 film.
“Thee hottest news on Broadway❣️🎩” the rapper captioned a post revealing news of her Broadway debut on Instagram.
“Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ team is an absolute honor,” Megan Thee Stallion said about joining the show in a statement at the time, per Variety.
“I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace. Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the Hotties to see a new side of me.”
“Moulin Rouge! The Musical” is scheduled to conclude its seven-year Broadway run on July 26.
